About the Role: 

We have an opportunity for an experienced Aeronautical or Automotive Painter to join our team in Whanganui. This is a diverse and exciting role where no two days are the same. Your responsibilities will include managing the paint booth and preparation areas ensuring that best practise and efficient processes are followed; with the end result that all aircraft leave the hangar with a high-quality surface finish. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skill sets by assisting the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers in conducting basic aircraft maintenance tasks.

The location:

Part of our skilled Engineering team you’ll be based in our hanger in the vibrant, family friendly city of Whanganui. With some of the best heritage architecture in New Zealand, there’s also affordable housing, excellent schooling, numerous parks and reserves. With easy access to mountains, unspoilt native bush and multiple beaches, Whanganui has something to offer everyone.

About You:

The person we are looking for is someone who strives to excel and enjoys working both autonomously and in a team environment. You’ll need a passion for what you do, your attention to detail will be second to none, and you will be able to prioritise and plan work well. Flexibility is key as you may be required to repaint an aircraft wing one day, polish a fuselage the next and assist with basic aircraft maintenance in between. Having the technical expertise and abilities to assess and recommend solutions while meeting scheduled timelines is essential.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • NZQA qualifications in aeronautical or automotive surface restoration or equivalent recent experience
  • Previous practical experience in aeronautical or automotive surface restoration
  • Sound written and verbal comprehension skills
  • Technical expertise to assess and recommend surface finish requirements
  • Experience working in both team and individual situations
  • Ability to plan and prioritise personal workload

Desirable:

  • Previous maintenance/general engineering experience
  • Experience using computerised maintenance management systems
  • Understanding around the impact a quality surface finish has on aircraft maintenance requirements
