About the role

We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Technical Development Manager to join Ravensdown Limited and be part of our Science/ Technology based Innovation & Strategy team, striving to ensure Ravensdown can play a major role in educating our staff, shareholders and the industry around “Smarter Farming for a better New Zealand.

About you

Being based in Christchurch, you will use your PHD/ Masters in the soil fertility or agricultural science area, communication skills and vast experience to support and deliver key projects in the soil fertility and land use arena seeking positive outcomes and preparing the project technology for commercial utilisation. To provide agronomic support relating to soil fertility and land use to shareholders, customers and staff through academic research and rigour, training and on-going education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide scientific support and rigour in the area of soil science and management with our field staff and ensuring on-going education in provided through training, coaching and education.
  • Undertake and lead research development in identified areas for the business, looking at requirements of the land users, managing the contractual obligations and science relationships in working with research providers and ensuring Ravensdowns involvement with external research providers is supported professionally
  • With key shareholders, understand potential research areas and in conjunction with key stakeholders develop and implement the research and oversee any trial work associated in this area
  • Take a lead in the scope and implementation in key projects associated in the soil fertility and land use area for the business and where Ravensdown may be involved with others in the industry, with particular focus on the value propositions.

Your Background and Skills:

  • PHD or Masters working towards a PHD in agricultural science or related agricultural field
  • 10+ years’ experience in a similar role in the soil fertility industry
  • Active research experience and respected academic credentials
  • Strong communication skills to devolve technical information into easily understood material
  • Excellent relationship skills
  • Involvement in the wider soil fertility industry bodies and educational institutions
